Calcium-induced calcium release

چکیده
How are calcium levels increased within cells? Increases in intracellular calcium arise through either calcium influx across the plasma membrane or release from intracellular calcium stores, which is usually either the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) or, in muscle, the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR). Release of calcium from the ER/SR is activated by a variety of second messengers, such as inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3), cyclic ADP ribose (cADPr) or, significantly, by calcium itself.

The effect of nifedipine and baclofen on spinal anesthesia induced by local anesthetics
The primary mode of action of local anesthetics is through sodium channel and axonal conduction blockade. Local anesthetics have also extensive effects on pre-synaptic calcium channels that must function to stimulate the release of neurotransmitters. Thus, interference with calcium channel conductance may enhance spinal anesthesia with local anesthetics. The present study was designed to invest...

متن کاملHydrophilic Natural Polymers for Sustained-controlled Release of Calcium Hydroxide
Calcium Hydroxide (CH) is commonly employed as intracanal medicament in endodontics. In order to maximize its therapeutic effects, it is essential to develop new approaches for preparing the controlled drug release systems which, in turn, facilities the dissociation of CH into calcium and hydroxyl ions. This work studies the sustained-controlled release of calcium ions and the effect of pH chan...

متن کاملCalcium release from aortic sarcoplasmic reticulum.
The ability of ionsitol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3) and other inositol phosphates to induce calcium release from canine aortic sarcoplasmic reticulum vesicles was examined. Using the calcium indicator chlorotetracycline or antipyrylazo III, aortic vesicles were shown to accumulate calcium in the presence of ATP, and then release approximately 25% of the intravesicular calcium upon addition of 7 m...
متن کاملInositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate-induced calcium release from canine aortic sarcoplasmic reticulum vesicles.
Inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate-induced calcium release from canine aortic smooth muscle sarcoplasmic reticulum vesicles was examined using the calcium indicator antipyrylazo III. Calcium release was initiated by addition of inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3) to aortic vesicles 7 min after initiation of ATP-supported calcium uptake. Half-maximal calcium release occurred at 1 microM IP3, with maxim...
